First-year Personal Librarians

Smith Hall's Personal Librarian

What can your First-year Personal Librarian do for you?

  • Keep you informed with periodic e-mail messages highlighting resources and programs
  • Assist you with your research assignments by helping you identify the best sources and formulate search strategies
  • Answer your questions about library services and resources
  • Connect you with librarians across all subject areas
  • Support you even when you’re not on campus—for example if you’re on break
  • Help you when you don’t know where to start, or can’t think of what to do next!

Your First-year Personal Librarian is James Van Fleet.

Jim has been the Science and Engineering Librarian at Bucknell for 30 years.  He can help you with everyday questions and in-depth research -- if you have been a librarian for long enough, you can answer questions on any topic!  Jim already knows your professors, they may refer you to a librarian for help with your papers, posters, or presentations, or even your "references" list.  He is also your resource for "bibliographic software" such as RefWorks or Zotero, the college-level versions of EasyBib.

Jim is happy to connect with students who are interested in anime and manga, the library has built a large collection.

He is the club advisor for D.R.A.G.O.N., and M.A.N.A. (look them up on the IN Network). And for something completely different, he plays traditional Irish music.
