Data Sources

Finding data files on diseases can be a challenge, depending on the country or region of interest. Data for the United States is usually available, but some diseases have *no* reported cases.

HealthData.gov
Datasets from the U.S. Department of Health, on reported cases.
Data.CDC.gov
The Centers for Disease Control has a "National Notifiable Diseases Surveillance System" that reports data on infectious diseases. These datasets are compatible with GIS software!

Check the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, it provides data on over 800 "zoonosis."

Reports on many zoonotic diseases within the European Union, although sometimes the report is "no cases."
WHO Global Health Observatory
The World Health Organization offers *limited* data on some diseases. Coverage is very uneven.

OMIM is an Online Catalog of Human Genes and Genetic Disorders, developed by NCBI, the National Center for Biotechnology Information.

American Institute of Biological Sciences
Information on publications, public policy, and education in biology.
Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology
The nation’s largest coalition of biomedical researchers, representing 23 scientific societies and over 90,000 researchers from around the world. FASEB manages many scientific meetings, conferences, and exhibit halls each year, publishes The FASEB Journal, and provides career resources through job/resume postings, networking, and educational seminars.
American Society for Cell Biology
The Society's purpose is to promote and develop the field of cell biology, through meetings, publications, and advocacy.
