About this Guide

Please note:  This guide is not a legal document.  It is offered as an educational tool to introduce some key aspects of copyright law and provide resources to help locate materials in the public domain or under Creative Commons licenses. 

Members of our campus, including students working on multimedia projects, are encouraged to use copyright-free materials and only use copyrighted materials if they can obtain the rights or if their use of those materials falls under Fair Use.

This guide: Will introduce you to key concepts of copyright law. Will help you better understand your rights and responsibilities as a copyright holder and user. Will make you aware of resources that can help you find media that you can use in your assignments. Will connect you with on-campus resources and support.
