Library Policies: Borrowing Privileges

Borrowing Privileges

The Circulation Department provides access to the main book and video collection, to items on reserve in Bertrand Library, and to equipment that is loaned out to faculty, staff, and students. At the Library Services Desk, you may check library materials out, return or renew materials, and ask for help in locating materials.

The Reserves section of the desk is the primary location for books, films, and other materials that faculty have placed on reserve for student usage during the semester. Bucknell students, staff and faculty can check out such items as digital cameras, data projectors, and portable hard drives as well as purchase some media materials at the Equipment section of the desk. Students may also request storage lockers by inquiring at the Library Services Desk.

Students, faculty, staff, spouses, and dependents may check out library materials using their Bucknell University ID card. Only Bucknell faculty, staff, and students may borrow equipment.

Residents of Union, Snyder, and Northumberland Counties are eligible for a community borrower card. For more information about community borrower library privileges, please call the Library Services Desk at 570-577-1462 or email library@bucknell.edu.

Other services:

Searches: We want to make sure that each borrower gets the materials that they need. If you cannot find an available book on the shelf, let the circulation staff know. We will search for it and notify you when we find the item.

Microform: Two microfilm/microfiche readers, one LAC fiche reader, and one opaque reader are located by the DVD section on the main floor. Please see the Library Services Desk for assistance.

Photocopy Services: We have photocopy machines on the Main Level and Level Two.  Bertrand Library adheres to the copyright law (Title 17, section 108, United States Code) which governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy of reproduction is to be used only for private study, scholarship, or research. If a user makes a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement. The photocopiers in the library are maintained by the Office of Publications, Print and Mail.

Borrowers with disabilities: Staff will retrieve library materials or provide assistance in using library equipment. From the main elevator, all parts of the library are accessible by wheelchair. A Xerox Outlook magnifier and other aids are available. Handicapped restroom facilities and a wheelchair-accessible water fountain are located on the Main Level. We have campus maps indicating building access and parking info at the Library Services Desk.
