MORS 302: Responsible Management: General Resources

Finding Competitors

Find competitors and competitor information using the following resources:

Running Coaches/Running Clubs

Google search: running coaches [near Lewisburg]; running clubs, running events

Visitors' Bureaus

Do a Google search for Pennsylvania visitors bureaus.
Pennsylvania doesn't seem to have a Visitors' Bureau Association, but Georgia has one, and here's what they say about Visitors' Bureaus (for some background info). In addition, the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors has a nice description of CVBs (again, just for some helpful context). The interim director from the Susquehanna River Valley Visitors Bureau mentioned the Pennsylvania state tourism office, which you may want to consult at www.visitpa.com.

Coffee Bar/Cafe

Google search (near Lewisburg or in Central PA) to find local competitors, but also consider that the owner mentioned Starbucks and Dunkin' as competitors.

Mexican Restaurant

Google search (near Shamokin Dam/Selinsgrove/Central PA) to find local competitors

If you are looking for information on publicly traded companies use these databases:

Industry Reports

While these reports have a much broader scope than your company and its local or B-Corp competitors, industry reports can give you helpful insight into the industry, regulatory issues, and challenges and opportunities. Reports also provide information about regulatory bodies, journals of relevance, and lists of questions about the industry that may be thought-provoking for your research.

Searching for industry reports in ABI/Inform

  1. Use the Advanced Search feature (this is the default search in ABI/Inform)
  2. Enter a keyword (e.g., "destination marketing" or "mexican restaurant" or "nonprofit organization" or "coffee bar" in the search bar or some other keyword or combination of keywords)
  3. Limit publication date (in most cases, you should be OK selecting the "Last 3 months" option...if no results, expand to "Last 12 months")
  4. Select Industry Report in the Document Type box
  5. Click Search button
