The Sustainability Research Guide brings together resources that support research on sustainability topics. Because many topics can be studied from a sustainability perspective, you will find resources based in a variety of disciplines on this guide.
Sustainability at Bucknell
At Bucknell, sustainability "encompasses both principles and practices, at scales from local to global, that protect, maintain and increase the long-term viability and resilience of our environmental, social and economic support systems" (Bucknell Sustainability). The following are just a sample of Bucknell's sustainability initiatives and programs.
- Office of Campus SustainabilityThe Office of Campus Sustainability provides strategic direction and day-to-day leadership on sustainability initiatives, oversees sustainability reporting, and implements and assesses progress of the University's Sustainability Plan.
- The Plan for Sustainability@BucknellSustainability@Bucknell is a 10-year aspirational plan for environmental sustainability in accordance with the guidance from the University’s strategic plan.
- The Bucknell FarmBucknell's 5-acre farm offers an interdisciplinary space for academic connections, sustainable food production, student life and wellness and community engagement.
- Bucknell Center for Sustainability & the EnvironmentThe Bucknell Center for Sustainability & the Environment creates impactful, interdisciplinary, experiential opportunities for learning and research that address global and environmental challenges.
- President’s Sustainability CouncilThe President's Sustainability Council is the University's strategic leadership team for sustainability. Its primary responsibilities include developing and implementing the University's Sustainability Plan.
- Volunteer at the Bucknell Farm & Community GardenAll experience levels welcome. Bring a water bottle and sturdy shoes.
- Bucknell River SymposiumThe annual Susquehanna River Symposium connects students, scientists and engineers from throughout the Susquehanna River region.
- Bucknell Sustainability SymposiumBucknell's annual Sustainability Symposium explores diverse aspects of sustainability from multiple disciplinary perspectives using a range of approaches, from the scientific to the creative.
- Sustainable Office Supply StoreLocated in the basement of Taylor Hall, Rooms 15 & 18, the SOSS provides recycled office and school supplies.
- Student Environmental ClubThe Environmental Club works to educate the university and Lewisburg community on environmental issues, and works as a team to make positive sustainable changes in the community.
- Small Business Development CenterThe SBDC provides confidential no-cost consulting and educational workshops to individuals throughout central Pennsylvania.
